The more I practice mindfulness the more clarity I gain around my life and what it all means. Books like this assist greatly in understanding my practice. We are all bound by our minds and bodies and how they interact not only interdependently but also with the external reality. Like sponges, our minds and bodies absorb almost everything we are exposed to and if we are without awareness I believe we can become to much of everything else and less of our true selves.

There are both good and bad to what we can absorb yet regardless everything has the ultimate influence on how we behave and how we coexist. This coexistence is important with our outwardly relationships but even more paramount to the relationship with ourselves. Awareness not only allows us to better understand all this but also how we react, respond and allow it to direct our lives. If you desire happiness, which I think we all do, then awareness created through mindfulness practices is beneficial.
Having read this book, I have been further inspired to delve deeper into my practice. It has not only given me inspiration but a greater understanding of what mindfulness is. Its easy to get caught up in the trend of meditation and really any trend. Surrounded by information it’s easy to get caught up in practices that promise the world but without deep understanding we are easy to fall back into old patterns. If we want to take these practices to the next level within our lives, we must strive to learn more.
I have practiced meditation for 2 years never with any great consistency or real understanding. I have simply done it because that’s what others that I admire say they do. I have felt and received a calmness from my practice but have essentially jumped into it without any real understanding. If I am unaware about the ‘how to’ of a practice that is designed to assist me to create greater awareness in life what hope do I have?
I believe any practice that you adopt you will create self learnings, and this has certainly been the case for me however, certain ideas and thoughts shared in this book help me create better understanding. I believe this will allow me to build a stronger practice. It has given me insight into how I’ve approached it without best form and how I can improve what I already do.
The feeling I have is that for what I have done so far has actually assisted me greatly in my life. There are insights and lessons in this book that I am already aware of. There are also insights that have inspired me to take my practice to the next level. Part of me can relate to how the author of this book may have felt when he started his journey into his meditation practice.
I think if you have never started a practice this book might be a little much, although that is just my thought putting myself in those shoes a few years back. The insights I have gained are much more noticeable being that I have already created an understanding into such practices. However, there is always something to gain and it is equally a great place to start to help fine tune your practice quicker then venturing out alone.
Here’s the thing. If someone told you that you could create a life that is happy, content, free and fulfilled with everything you already have at your hands, would you be interested? We all desire these states of being and I believe that it is in our ability to create this within, now.
If that sounds of interest, even if you hold some scepticism, have a read of this book. When I read a book from start to finish with ease and in deep thought, excited to get back to it every time I have a pause, I know it’s a good one.
