Robert begins chapter one with this, and I quote, “The poor and the middle class work for money. The rich have money work for them.”
Most of us get educated and learn how to work for money. We essential exchange our time for money. Time for me is priceless, and the further I educate myself in order to change my way of living the more I appreciate my time. I dread the thought of giving my time away.
The real way to live is to learn how to generate money and then make money work for you. This will lead to greater time freedom. This is when you will be able to enjoy you money rather than have your money enjoy you.
Before you think that its all about riches and making shit loads of money, I can tell you its not. The new way of life is about creating enough money that allows you to live comfortable in whatever lifestyle you want to live. I think it’s about creating financial freedom.
If I can have money generate money that allows me to take more holidays, have more chances to travel overseas and that allow my family and I to live a comfortable life, I will do and continue to learn what it takes.
In the second chapter Robert says, “It’s not how much money you make. It’s how much money you keep.” Perhaps some will disagree with this.
Many of us think money is better spent and I agree but spent on the right things. It is great to have nice things and experiences but if you have to continually work to be able to do so than you may find yourself working way beyond retirement.
It would be better to work hard to get some momentum, invest your money wisely, spend what you need to have an enjoyable lifestyle on the way, and then have the money produced from those investments work for you so you can continue a desired lifestyle without great need in exchanging more time for money.
If this is clicking with you than definitely read this book. It is not those that have all the money and that lead great lives; it is the people that are highly educated on how to manage money that I believe lead the best lives.
