Life like a holiday. I can hear the questions and doubt already. “Yeah right! How?” “It’s a nice idea but some of us have to work.” “Easy said than done.” For whatever the excuse, reason or doubt I would suggest it is exactly for those reasons that we must seek to approach life more like a holiday.
The hunter-gatherers travelled regularly, moving from one place to the next. This allowed them to continually change their environments and routines. I think this helped keep life interesting. The agricultural age forced us to remain put. Not great for the soul, sanity or our level of our happiness.
As we’ve advanced created self-imposed restrictions on how well we live our life. We must work to meet our needs and we must work even more to meet our ever increasing desires, as an individual and as a society. More, more, more.
Life is short but only due to our perspective on how we should live it. Life can be long and beautiful. It’s no wonder we see it this way when for most of our lives we spend it doing stuff that simply doesn’t make us feel like existing.
When we get moments of freedom to do as we please we try jam pack as much as we can into a short window. Seeking the greatest methods of stimulation to help get those happy chemicals flowing before we have to head back to the grind. This cycle forms modern life, like a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs.
What if it didn’t have to be? What if we thought of life like a holiday? How would life be different? How would we think and act differently? What if…?
