What is Power?
“What then is freedom? The power to live as one wishes.” Marcus Tullius Cicero
Power is the ability to do something or act in a particular way. The reason we crave power is that it gives us a greater sense of control, authority or influence over others.
Real power isn’t in the hands of those that attempt to put themselves into such positions in life. Trying to control all the is external can be fruitless without and lead to a life without greater meaning or reward.
Power gives us certainty in an uncertain life. Like a dollar in our hands gives us comfort in the thought that we will not starve yet when it is not there, what then? The power that is found in having control over external elements in life can easily disappear when external elements shift – and they often do.
The word power may mean to be able, however, power really arises in our ability to simply be. When our state of being is more consistently as we desire, pleasant and satisfactory, we will be more able to do and live in whatever way we desire. The reason for this is because it comes from a state within. Internal control, authority, and influence not over others but over our self.
