I Felt Like I Wasn’t Enough. I Felt Like a Failure.
“Fuck what you know. You need to forget about what you know, that’s your problem. Forget about what you think you know about life, about friendship, and especially about you and me.” Tyler Durden
In in my late teens and throughout my 20’s I felt like I wasn’t enough. I felt like it wasn’t achieving anything great. I felt unintelligent, stupid and really immature.
As I tried to define myself and sense of self-worth based on these feelings and personal insecurities I found myself venturing down paths and on a journey in life that kind of sucked and wasn’t truly as I desired.
I think this is a common journey for most of us. Perhaps it wasn’t the same kind of drivers that directed me but an underlying need or expectation to live this life based on external measures.
Here is what I know now – not much! But seriously, it is okay not to know everything, not to have a perfect path laid out in front of us. The sooner we realize that we don’t know everything the sooner we will start to learn, grow and really experience life. It’s okay not to know everything. I still know shit the only difference is that I am more confident in not knowing.
Secondly, immaturity is not a problem. Actually, I think life is more fun to be foolish, silly and not so serious. I still struggle with the this but am learning to relax.
Where immaturity is a problem only if it keeps us from an ability to guide our lives in autonomous thought and action.
Focus on something that you love that you’re curious about and make that your purpose. And this is perhaps the greatest things I have learned about life as I’ve tried to figure shit out, and that is when you become autonomous in thought, action and the direction you take in life you begin to create the ultimate life.
Fu*k all that external expectation and bull shit and start to live your life defined by what is within. 3
