Revolution by Russell Brand
Written and narrated by Leigh Martinuzzi (originally published Oct 7th, 2014)
Revolution by Russell Brand… a life-changing read? No! Entertaining? Yes! And a few thoughts to reflect upon and some ideas that may be beneficial for self-improvement. In a humorous, Brand style rant, he gets you thinking outside the box and on a different tangent to the status quo.
A book that shares one person’s ideas in a way that generates new and challenging thoughts within is to be appreciated and Brand has done this well. Whether right or wrong or indeed revolutionary Russell opens your mind to different points of view and perspectives about the world we live in with a particular emphasis on politics, culture and wealth distribution.
What I really enjoyed was Russell’s storytelling and how he poetically and humorously rambles on about how what we believe and have come to know is all-bogus. A revolution is what is needed to bring back some balance from all the “evils” of the world.
When I say ramble, I mean this with all respect, I certainly ramble when I write. I’m rambling now. For this reason, I would highly recommend you get the Audible version of this book which Russell Brand narrates himself. It makes the journey that much more delightful. Within all his rambling Russell shares some great insight that definitely that made me think about the bigger picture of life and how I could bring some moral balance into my own. Brand helps remove our blinkers, as we move around in a narrow gaze, and open our mind to a more open and understanding appreciation for what’s truly important.
Russell shares his stories from being a junky drug-addicted lad to a famous sex-crazed movie star. How his quest for sex has brought him at times much pleasure while seemingly being absent in spirit. This led to his own revolution with the belief in a higher being and the practice of meditation setting him on a new path.
I think it is this story of his personal journey and awareness that really connects with me and I am sure it will with many readers. The ability to make change happen is within us all. Do we continue our daily slog, like worker-ants acting only to serve the queen yes without purpose? Or do we wish to awaken our lives to something greater? A life filled with more meaning, living with a purpose that has higher meaning spiritually while also serving society on a greater level.
Russell has had change and with his new path of spiritual enlightenment coupled with his desire to bring some serious shake-up to the world of politics and wealth, he will continue to evolve himself. Like me, you may not agree entirely with his viewpoints but may find yourself agreeing with his journey. It is one we can, and will all have and where it takes us doesn’t need to be accepted by the world only ourselves. Hopefully, it is taking you in a positive direction one with freedom, fulfilment and happiness.
