  • Altered Beast: The 6 Tricks to Power Up Your Life.

    Do you remember the game Altered Beast? At least I think that’s what it was called. We played it on the Sega Master system. What a freaking revolution that console was. We spent so many hours playing games, and platform games like Altered Beast were the bomb!

    To be honest we probably spent too many hours on the machine but at the time, it was worth it! Being that we were kids, playing was important, as was the creative influence it had on our minds, imagination and intellect.

    In Altered Beast you had to make your way through the stage as a normal man however as you ventured through the level you could power-up. It you played well you could power-up quick and stay powered-up yet at the same time if you made a mistake or fucked up you would loose your powers and momentum.

    The idea was to stay powered-up so that when you got to the end “bad guy”, you would be in better position to whop his arse. The concept of powering-up yourself to better complete the game was common amongst most, at the time. In Sonic you got coins for extra lives and other speed based power-ups and in Mario Bros you ate mushrooms and grew big helping you smash your way through the levels with greater ease.

    In life we have a similar journey. If we do the right things we have the ability to alter our abilities and talent, essentially powering-up to better tackle life and all its challenges.

    Likewise, if we play poorly, miss opportunities or don’t push ourselves to chase after the power-ups, we remain average. We may get to fight the end bad guy and again we may not. Either way, the life of power-ups and extra lives, is much more favourable. You’ve just got to know how to power-up.

    The problem is that we are all terribly unaware on how to get those power-ups. Unlike the games where we are encouraged and given every opportunity to power-up, in life it is not so. In life we are so conditioned by society to conform and in education it is believed we can all fit into the same template. We know this is not the case.

    It’s a shame but the truth is that we are not taught the lessons we need in life to live at a higher and more powered-up level. It just doesn’t happen. This is why after school for many people who are motivated to have more in life, embark on a personal transformational journey.

    We realise if we want more freedom, if we want more money, more success and more happiness we need to alter ourselves, we need to power-up so that we can achieve all that we desire and at a faster rate.

    These are the things that I believe will power-up your life by altering your current state. For many of us we love personal transformation and we love the idea of living a life of our desires but when it comes to taking action and implementing what we learn we lack the motivation, discipline and courage required to persevere – and we give up.

    If you read these steps, and I will make them as simple as possible, and then implement the habits into your life by making a plan and taking constant and consistent action you will power-up your life. So let’s continue if you are willing.

    Mindset.

    It is through your mind that you create your reality. Your mindset accounts for 80 percent of your potential. If you have a lacking mindset, weak with holes, you will struggle to lead a life towards all you desire and more likely move away from it.

    Action: Become aware of your thoughts and those thoughts of people around you. If you pick up negative vibes or conditions in your environment, both external and internal, reduce them! It is hard to do but with practice your awareness it will only grow.

    Switch of the news, switch of your limiting thoughts and beliefs and remove those negative naysayers and infectious haters. Find the opposite to these and encourage those instead. Positive in equals positive out, your mindset will strengthen with this act.

    Health.

    I believe if your mindset is strong you will naturally want better health. It is through better health that you can operate at peak performance, both physically and mentally. If your health is shit your mindset will be poor and visa versa. They work hand in hand.

    Action: This is to simply do! Wake up earlier and exercise everyday. It doesn’t matter what time that is of how long you exercise for, just start! It will be painful and temptation of not doing it are powerful however stay focused because this is a certain way to make you feel more alive.

    Productivity.

    With a great and powerful mindset and strong health you may be happier and more aligned but working on your ability to utilise your time the most effectively will be a sure way to power-up your life to even higher standards.

    Action: There is a lot to this step than space permits and without making it too hard to follow I shall keep it simple. Firstly, everyday focus on one thing that is most important to you. This should be the number one thing that will take you closer to your goal. Do this before you do anything else, make it top priority.

    Secondly, clear out the clutter. Remove distractions and low level activities that may seem important but actually take you no closer to your goal. To do this adopt and become aware of the 80/20 rule. This suggests that 20 percent of what you do gives you 80 percent of your results and visa versa. Focus on that 20 percent and remove the other 80 percent, this will help you clear the clutter.

    Learning.

    Most of us stop learning when school finishes, most of us stop working on the most important thing in our lives and that is ourselves. Learning is our ability to continual improve and grow and is a fundamental need for all human kind.

    Action: Start learning again. Not sure of what that is then that’s ok. Here is what you must do. Pick up a book, one that you may be interested in and start reading. If you become unsatisfied and feel no gain, pick up another one, you will find something that will grow your curiosity and once again become passionate about learning.

    Do the above steps with podcasts, seminars, workshops, mentors and coaches. When you find the happy mix incorporate learning into your everyday routines and do not miss a day you will alter your life in ways you could not believe. Like exercise if may be hard to discipline such routine but it is well worth it.

    Play.

    Life is too short! I think this is our ability to align ourselves with our spirituality. We get so caught up in all the mayhem and chaos that is life and this is totally unnecessary. We need to become more present in the now and make sure we enjoy and savour each moment we have.

    Action: This should be easy enough for most of us to implement. Basically what you want to do is just have more fun. Laugh more, sing more, be silly more and stop taking life and shit so seriously.

    If you like sport, if you like to sing, if you like to skip make sure you set this as a priority into your everyday. If you are unsure of how to play- observe kids and what they do. Children have a keen understanding of the benefits of play. As adults we need to bring it back.

    Helping Others.

    Tony Robbins describes this as one of the 6 fundamental human needs and that is the act of giving back. We need not money or riches to help others we only need thoughtfulness, compassion and soul. Giving and helping others acts to raise your feelings of worthiness by building on your self-respect.

    Action: Do one thing each day to help someone or make someone’s day. This can be as small as helping an old person cross the street or paying someone a genuine complement. You could join a volunteer organisation or help at the local school. Its great to give money however it is often the actual act of giving your time for others that is much more satisfying.

    Find away to do this everyday.

    These are 6 simple tricks to ensure you power-up your life. Please be aware that when you implement them you may not get instant results, controversially so, it may even be painful at first. You must not give up and you must persevere.

    Unlike the games were power-ups are pushed in front of you and instant in life it is much more gradual. We have become so conditioned in thinking that we can have it all now that for many of us when we start out on something we are disappointed and give up when instant gratification is not received.

    I can assure you however if you start with these few things you will notice the effects. If you remain consistent and build on them, you will power-up your life. You will feel better and you will connect greatly with what it actually means to truly live.
