The Prosperous Coach: Increase Income and Impact for You and Your Clients by Steve Chandler and Rich Litvin
Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes they just need a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen. Pete Carroll
Are you a coach or interested in starting a coaching practice? If so, this is a fantastic place to start. What I really enjoyed about this book is clutter free and a no bullshit guide to coaching. The authors describe it as a book for those already earning 6 figures and up from their coaching business or those just starting out. As a coach myself I found it tremendously insightful and would listening to again. And no matter your experience as a coach there is always something new to learn.
I listened to this as an Audio book and that was narrated by the authors themselves, which I like as I think it helps keep the messages true. Each chapter is brief and to the point, almost like a dot form presentation – no extra fluff needed.
At first, I would suggest the purpose of this book is to help sell them further as coaches and also their courses, seminars and to further raise their credibility. They are proven successful coaches and have many years’ experience that they share in this book, the highs and the lows, and pieces of gold that we can all use to help improve our own coaching practices.
You don’t have to be a super human to be a coach nor do you need to have a massive budget, amazing resources or kick ass marketing strategies. Rich and Steve iron out the myths on that. Actually, they clear the path on many myths of what it takes to be a coach.
They share the path to creating and maintaining a consistent flow of quality clients without the need for all this marketing hype and coaching courses that is flooding the market place at the moment. I confront this everyday. Join this course, become a master Facebook advertiser, or LinkedIn expert. The “how to” of the 6 figure online course to the worlds most famous writer ever. So much rubbish is out there in the mix of all the gold.
Then the courses on coaching that I have almost been swept into a few times. Courses promising to teach you how to be a coach, earn shit loads, and free yourself from the 9 to 5. The market is flooded with these coaches and after which they have no idea how to get started. I should refrain, I believe the fundementals taught in some of these courses may be beneficial however the best way to make your success is by following the basic and timeless principles that have always been used. This is relative for most business.
One important point they do continually emphasize is that to be a coach you need to be coached. How can one expect others to pay their coaching fee if they themselves do not pay for the services of a coach? It’s a belief thing. I suppose this doesn’t mean you need a coach to teach you how to coach but rather to assist you in the areas you are lacking. Coaching is essentially that, a means for improvement.
I am sure Michael Jordan’s coach was not a better basketball player then him but certainty without him he likely wouldn’t have had the success he had. Actually, he had several coaches.
I have a strong belief that we can all benefit from having a coach in life if we truly want to succeed as we desire. I understand that sometimes our budget may limit our ability to hire a coach, or the kind of coach however the best investment we can make in life is in ourselves.
Interested in coaching? This is a great listen. Learn some techniques on how to become a world-class coach with highly committed clients by breaking through the bullshit and staying focused on what matters.
