  • The One Path to Success- An Analogy

Here is an analogy of the path to success.

The path to success is much like going on a hike to somewhere you’ve never been before. Lets say that hike is one of the most tallest and most famous mountains in the world. You decide which one that is.

Like any hike you have to start from base camp and trek towards the summit, this is true for life also. Some people may get a chopper ride part way up, this at times seems unfair however you must realise that they still may not reach the summit and likely also that they may just catch the chopper back down.

For those that go on this trek you will be faced with challenges along the way and at points you will just want to stop and give up. For some, like myself not to long ago, we will reach a plateau, a point in life in which we become comfortable and stable. We decide to not continue to the summit and rather simply accept how far we’ve come, and limit ourselves, limit our beliefs, on how much further we can go.

There will be valleys and peaks, the road at times will be rocky and at other times be grassy and filled with wildflowers. You will never escape the environment that you are in yet only choose and learn how to best respond to it.

Like most hikes there usually only appears to be one clearly marked path to the summit and this is the one that most people take. Like life however there is never just one path to success and likely the most common path is also not the best.

Some hikers and extreme adventures will find an alternative route. Some will take short cuts; some will take greater risks, with more daring and challenging turns; others will just meander along the track in hope they will reach the summit.

For whichever way you should decide to travel your journey will be unique to yourself. Even if we take the more common path, no two will ever be the same. It will be one that only you will truly appreciate and acknowledge yet I sure hope it is one that others will remember.

If you start your climb to the summit simply because that’s what the others in life are doing you may just find it a long and rocky ride. If you have no reason, if you travel without purpose, you will certainly struggle and most likely not make it.

Find a reason for the hike; find your passion in life. Don’t go walking along paths blindfolded because it is likely you will trip more often and perhaps even walk of a cliff.

Have vision, carry a picture of the summit close to you at all times so that in times of great challenge you can revisit why you started this trek in the first place.

If you are comfortable at the station you are at than find peace and happiness there but don’t tell yourself you are comfortable if you are truly not, as this may lead to a life with regret.

Looking up the mountain and wondering what could have been if you just ventured on to that next station, will be a hard thing to swallow. Instead look down the mountain, smile and reflect on the journey you had.

Remember there is not one path to success and no ones journey is the same. We choose the path we take and we choose how far we wish to go. We will all face challenges and struggle yet we all can choose how we respond.

And finally the level you decide to reach should not be compared to another’s nor should we judge the level of another we should simply find peace and happiness in our own unique journey and be grateful for the path we follow.

This is my analogy on the path to success. Until next time peace, passion and purpose.
