  • Milo is was an attorney who has dared to go out there and follow his dreams. Having always had an interest in going on adventures and exploration he took the courage to leave his world behind and chase his passion. In this chat Milo shares his inspiration on what it takes to follow your passion, set goals and dream BIG.

“Nobody is ever going to walk up to you and give you a letter telling you what your purpose in life is, you’ve got to search for it.”

What does living life with passion and purpose mean?

We didn’t really ask this question but his thoughts were that we mustn’t feel like we are alone on our journey, there are millions of others on the same journey.

He also believes that we must not be afraid to share our ideas because someone may steal them. We must share them and discuss them with others. No one has the time to take your ideas when they are chasing their own.

    Summary

He wants to tell people that they can go on doing what they do and tolerate life or go on to let their passion blossom. You will discover many hidden skills and talents and truly grow to a person that when you look back you may never have thought would be possible.

Allow yourself to ignore the distractions and give yourself permission and time in life to identify your passion and when you do you will find life suddenly becomes clear. You start walking in a straight line towards your goal. If you are not and find yourself veering you need to get back on track.

You are responsible to start on your own journey, you may have some people that you rely on to motivate you but mostly you are on your own. A lot of people will most likely think you are crazy when you start to pursue your dreams but essentially you are on your own. You wont start out with fans but you’ve just got to start to live your journey, fans will follow.

He thinks anyone can do this and it is his passion to convey this message. The problem he finds is that people get stuck in the cycle of doing daily to-do-lists that revolve around doing things for everyone else and then you go on never doing anything you truly desire. Do not neglect yourself!

“Hire lazy people, lazy people will find a more efficient way to do things.”

During his time studying mathematics one the professors he had demonstrated to him that mathematics can actually be fun. Who would have thought? After his time with this professor he built a fascinating curiosity within the mathematics field. He is by no means a genius in the field but rather a lazy person that wanted to find any easier way to do things.

While studying he struggled to get the grades he wanted despite all his efforts he managed to just pass his classes and his realisation was that there was no future here. He new he wouldn’t be able to pass. His professor told him that he slipped though the gaps to get as far as he had and told him he would not make it through. He was encouraged to speak with his counselor to find another course that would be more suitable.

This experience was a major one. When he was told ‘no’ he literally cried knowing that he could not achieve something. This word no was and still is his biggest motivator in life; it provides him reason to prove people wrong. He took that ‘no’ and went on to push harder than ever to pass and he did.

Reviewing what he had to do to pass he realized the people that were good in the classes of mathematics had real interest in the subject. Then he went on to ask why. He convinced himself that he enjoyed mathematics. He found passion in mathematics. It was this that helped him succeed.

He has applied this fascination with what he does as a curious way to ask why and then break the problem down into bite size pieces to find solutions. If the why is not great than don’t pursue it! As an attorney he could have applied the same principles but it wasn’t a course that he wanted to live, mathematics was exciting, being the attorney was not. And his passion and desire to become an explorer was much stronger.

“Surround yourself with the people that you want to be like.”

Milo speaks with so much passion, which you will undoubtedly hear in this interview. We go into discussion around education and what that all means. We discuss how you can find passion in whatever you do but at the same time not to kid yourself that it is something you have to struggle to do if its not living true to yourself.

There are so many great take-outs from this interview, as below, that you will absolutely walk away inspired. The journey in life is yours to own, it is up to you to create your life and to do so you must make sacrifices, you must avoid the naysayers and stop living to what other people expect. Start asking why and start living every day with more purpose and you will get there.

“Fear is the friction of change. You are afraid because you are doing something that you have never done before.”

Please enjoy the listen and please leave your thoughts, comments and questions below.

    His Moment of Realisation

Milo began his journey as an academic studding economy and mathematics. Through listening and taking advice from others he went on to study more and went on to become an attorney. After 3 years in this job he had an ‘aha’ moment. Sitting in a box office with no windows he realized that he was living a life that was not following his dreams. He had a passion of following some of the most famous explorers in the world and trying to reach the most remote places in the world.

Sitting there in the office is looked around and realized that in the same office there were people that were of all ages and he could literally see his future, people that have been in this office 15 years his senior. With his desire to travel to extreme locations and have amazing worldly experiences he realized that by sitting in this office he could not make his dreams come true.

He decided that he needed to make a major change and only he could make that choice. So he gave up a life that he spent all his time to get there to follow his passion. It wasn’t money that got him there either, having 6 figure academic debt, he still choose to leave the stability of life to chase his dreams. Having no experience whatsoever and having no connections in the exploration field he just went on to make it happen.

“The hardest thing is to go from zero to moving.”

Now after taking many smaller steps he has traveled to many remote locations that many have never gone, he has set up a company that allows others to have tailor made extreme adventures. He is by no means finished on his journey but rather just beginning and has huge dreams moving forward.

    Key Take Outs

    ·      Hire lazy people will find a more efficient way to do things. The thought here is not how to work hard but work smarter. Way struggle with life when there may be an easier way to do things and this doesn’t mean to take the easy road but rather a more efficient one.

    ·      Passion can exist in anything. Find passion and you will succeed. Sometimes what we do is not so exciting but with curiosity and a deep fascination you can develop passion. Without passion at what ever you do you will never find success.

    ·      Don’t accept no & never give up. No is a deal breaker in a lot of circumstances but don’t allow that answer to make you stop but rather use it as a driving force to push on and never give up on what it is that your truly desire. There is always a way.

    ·      Question why! Why are you doing this? What is the purpose? With the skill to tackle large problems and break them down into bite sized parts you can find out the solution. Is this what you want?

    ·      Stop telling yourself what you don’t believe. If your gut instinct is telling you that this is not really for you than don’t go on telling yourself lies. Accept and admit that this is not for you and find another path. This does not mean give up but rather accept the truth.

    ·      You have to decide on what it is your want to do. The search for your purpose is a continual one. Only you can decide what it is you want to do and don’t stop that search until you find it.

    ·      Avoid the naysayer’s and follow what you want to do. People both respectfully and out of envy will tell you that you cannot do what you desire. You must listen to these comments but don’t take them as gospel as only by experience can you decide if it is true.

    ·      Exercise to start the day. This is common among all the passionate and successful people. Starting your day with some form of physical exercise is a key to living a more productive day and life.

    ·      Find time to think. You need to give yourself time to think. This solo time is planning time; this solo time is time to gain greater clarity. With clarity and a plan you will stay on track to living a life of greater passion and purpose.

    ·      Sacrifice short term for the long term. When you start of on your journey you may never know how long it is but you have to keep taking steps towards it. These steps will be painful but the longer term rewards will be bliss. Before you know it you will get there.

    ·      Surround yourself with people that you want to be like. The environment that we live is contagious.  If you are surrounded by negative you will become negative if you are surrounded by positive likewise you will become positive. If you surround yourself by success you also will become a success.

    ·      Commit and follow through. When you commit to something you commit for a reason, you must follow through with your commitments.

    ·      Take immediate action. Stop waiting and just take action. Easier said than done but the longer you wait the longer you delay living.

    Routines & Rituals

    ·      Write down what you’re going to do for the day. Keep it simple and with purpose.

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

“Surround yourself with the people that you want to be like.”
